The most abundant fruit tree at Honor Grown Farm is the avocado tree. We have 15 varieties that fruit from July through December.
Susan is flaunting one of our Choquette avocados. These are the big ones you will find in the supermarket (next to the smaller Haas avocados).
We also grow the lesser known avocados that are often black-skinned and buttery, like Wurtz, Lila, Brogdon, and Brazos Belle. In addition, we have planted a number of types, including Winter Mexican, Day, Joey, and Super Haas, varieties that each produce varying texture and taste types of avocados throughout much of the year.
The more-established, 6-year old trees were sourced from my "tree Guru," Dana Venrick at Quality Green Specialists right here in Deland. Without his deep understanding of plants and the minerals that are missing in Florida sandy soils, our trees at Honor Grown Farm would not flourish.
www.anaturalfarm.com is the primary supplier of the more recent avocado and other stone fruit trees you'll find at Honor Grown Farm. Luc's website not only depicts the many types of avocados that thrive in Central Florida, but he has some great tutorials on grafting and how to select the right tree for your space.
